About White Monkey

White Monkey, also known as Bai Mao Hou, is a type of white tea that originates from China. It is named after the appearance of the tea leaves, which are said to resemble the hands of monkeys. White Monkey is made from the young tea buds and leaves of the tea plant, and it undergoes minimal processing, allowing the leaves to wither and dry naturally.

White Monkey tea is primarily produced in the Fuding and Zhenghe regions of Fujian province, China. Fujian is renowned for its white tea production, and Fuding and Zhenghe are known for growing high-quality tea leaves.

The name "White Monkey" is derived from the appearance of the tea leaves, which are often long, twisted, and covered with white downy hairs. The leaves are selected from the tea plant's young buds and tender leaves.

White Monkey tea undergoes minimal processing, typically consisting of withering and drying. The leaves are allowed to naturally wither after plucking, and the oxidation process is minimal, resulting in a tea with a delicate flavour profile.

White Monkey tea is known for its light, sweet, and floral flavour. The taste is often described as subtle, with a mild sweetness and hints of floral notes. The minimal processing allows the natural characteristics of the tea leaves to shine.

The aroma of White Monkey tea is fresh, with floral and sometimes fruity notes. The fragrance is an integral part of the overall tea-drinking experience.

The brewed liquor of White Monkey tea is pale yellow to light gold, reflecting its minimal oxidation and gentle processing.

White Monkey tea contains lower caffeine levels compared to black tea, making it a suitable choice for those looking for a milder stimulant effect.

Like other types of tea, White Monkey contains antioxidants and polyphenols that may offer various health benefits. The minimal processing helps preserve these beneficial compounds.

White Monkey tea can be enjoyed on its own or paired with light snacks. It is often appreciated for its delicate and nuanced flavours, making it a choice for those who prefer a more subtle tea experience.
